If you are looking for stuff to read, written by female authors, you might want to check out the SF Mistressworks List. There's also an accompanying website, the Mistressworks blog, with a large collection of book reviews from different sources - just in case you want to check out some books before buying them.
Speaking of female authors, my friend Gillian wrote a time-travel novel a while ago, and if you like historically correct novels (as she is also a historian), Langue[dot]doc 1305 might be just the book for you. (Here's a recent review of it.)
I also learned today that there is such a thing as a Brit-picker - somebody who proofreads books set in Britain to make sure they are properly referencing British stuff.
